Horse Show

Are You Feeling OLD?

don’t worry… We’ve got you covered.

Hi there my name isLaura Kelland-May and welcome to another equestrian skill builders video.

There thanks for stopping by and if you’d like to improve your riding and training,

Win more ribbons at your next horse show or generally like other horse related stuff then stick around because i’ve got some real good treats for you. I’m gonna talk about how to get back in the saddle if you haven’t been riding for a while.

It HRH Queen Elizabeth I can do it then i know you can do and i know i’ve done it as well.

A lot of people start back riding again because they rode when they were younger and then they went off to university, had a family, had a career and now they’ve decided that they want to get back into the saddle again.

Know your limits –
You have to know that ,you know what, maybe i only need to ride for 30 minutes. Maybe i only need to participate you don’t need to be going out and doing the maximum amount you can do. Do what you like to do and you should know your limits. If you can only do 30 minutes then do 30 minutes.

Ride with people who you are familiar with and you’re going to enjoy riding with –
So if you are riding with kids and you don’t want to be with kids, then get with people who are your own age and have the similar goals as you. If riding over trot rails and single jumps is what you want to do, then that’s what you do. Make sure that your instructor knows what your goals are.

Make sure that they know that you know what that’s a little too much for me i’m happy just doing this single fence over here ride with like-minded people no sense in you riding with other people who are focusing on going to a competition if you’re not interested in doing that.

Invest in yourself and in your horse
So if you don’t have a horse, if you’re if you are taking lessons or you’re on a lesson horse or you’re leasing a horse, invest in yourself. Don’t be afraid to take lessons don’t be afraid to ask for help from somebody don’t be afraid to go out there and do those clinics. That’s investing in yourself for your own education to invest in yourself.
I don’t mean go out and buy uh, you know thousands of dollars worth of equipment, i mean if you like a piece of equipment and it works for you then invest in it. I am saying invest in yourself and take once a week lessons go to those clinics where you can expand and embrace the knowledge that these people have.

Start slow and finish strong –
Specifically this means to me in the ride that you’re having do a warm-up start slow get it together get things organized have a plan and finish strong within that riding session and also within the next six months have a plan and finish strong within that plan and have a yearly plan move out from that and have a yearling plan where do you want to be next year and have that plan and set up yourselves for success and get from here to here and have a plan so that you start slow and finish strong at the end of the year

I know you can do it. You’ve got it in you to do it.

So if you have any questions about what you can do in your next riding session please send me an email thistleridge hotmail.com
