What does it mean if my horse has no rhythm?
Rhythm is the steady beat that the horse makes.
For example when you watch a horse trotting you can hear a definite 1-2-1-2 beat or rhythm of the horse’s hoof-steps. If your horse lacks rhythm that means the horse’s hoof beat, is irregular and the horse goes 1212 – 1- 2 -1 2…1 2 this means the horse is losing their balance and running or slowing down to re-balance themselves and causing tension.
How to know if you are riding in rhythm? Easy way to tell… count the beats of the trot… or even get a – a metronome.
Riding in rhythm is important because when you have a steady rhythm your horse can become relaxed, and supple. And that is what we are striving for.
